Take on 53km for Sense this October
Help Sense reach more people with complex disabilities who are experiencing loneliness right now.
Someone Cares if I'm Not There
In 2017, Sense released a report called ‘Someone Cares If I’m Not There’ which looked at why loneliness affects so many disabled people. Our research found that 53% of disabled people report feeling lonely, rising to 77% for young disabled people.
The causes of loneliness among disabled people are complex. Many of the barriers to making friends and meeting people are practical, such as the need for accessible transport and buildings, financial support and appropriate social care.
As well as our buddying, arts, sports and other programmes that connect disabled people with the world around them, we also campaign and aim to influence government policy.
Sign up to Move53 and you can walk, run, roll or stroll 53km across October. You can take on the distance wherever and whenever you like, whether it is lacing up those trainers and heading out for long runs or making those daily steps to the shops all add up.
